A side effect of being in the middle of senior year is that I go through a LOT of television in an attempt to stave off insanity while drawing for 10 hours at a stretch! I got into X-Files because it is infinite. I stayed because Dana Scully is a queen, and a super-babe to boot.

I had been meaning to do a new lifestyle illustration for some promotional postcards I've been working on, and I finally got a chance during the hurricane! I was inspired by this gorgeous scarf-- if I couldn't afford it, I knew I had to draw it. Sigh!!

Our hero meets her prince! Or our prince meets his hero, or our hero meets this super talented baker lady, or something. While on patrol at the local market, Sorej made the (happy) mistake of doubting Masha's dumpling-making prowess. Clearly, he is about to eat his words... just as soon as he finishes chewing.

THE DUMPLING PRINCESS - Concept Art (Thesis)

Masha is a baker who falls in love with the prince of her war-loving kingdom. Won over by her kind heart and her amazing dumpling recipe, he proposes to her... but tradition dictates that if Masha wants to marry him, she has to fight the last person to marry into the royal family: his mother. Leader-Consort Zareni is a stern woman who famously lost her left hand fighting for the Leader's right, and the last thing Masha wants to do is fight her-- especially when, orphaned by war at a young age, she has no taste for fighting at all!

 

Long time no see, guys! I thought it was finally time to share what I've been working on... the first part of my thesis! I'll be doing a series of story concepts, each complete with character designs, environment concept elements, and a series of illustrations, all to be finally packaged as a zine. This is only the first story concept I'm working on, but I'm really enjoying it-- I hope you do too, because illustrations are on the way!

And So Ends Summer 2012

Summer is coming to a close for me-- starting in less than a week, I begin my last year of college. In a way, this was effectively my last summer, and I was lucky to spend it like I did: in New York City, interning and having a good time! In any case, that it was my last summer can be my excuse for the unusually epic amount of mushy fanart I drew. Most of it is elsewhere, for those who actually have an interest in such things, but I was too happy with this to keep it hidden away. Soon, I'll be up to my eyeballs in Serious Illustration....

But not quite yet.
