All Good Things Must End

I've had this as my main art blog since sophomore year. It's seen some good times! Unfortunately, it's time to close it down. It's been real, Blogspot! If you'd like to continue following my work, I will be posting at aimeefleck.tumblr.com from now on.

You Will Make It Through The Night

You Will Make It Through The Night
You Will Make It Through The Night

I finally get to show you guys my finished piece for the Light Grey Art Lab show, “You Can Do It (Put Your Back Into It)”! The theme was an inspirational poster with a focus on type. Everybody’s turned out really great, you can see them all here— or if you live in Minneapolis, in person, starting June 14th!

When I found out I got into this show, my life was already really stressful— I was putting up my commencement exhibition, apartment-hunting, and getting ready to graduate from college, and around me, all of my friends were even more stressed out than I was. I was definitely in need of a motivational poster!

Everything that was happening got me thinking about the times when “reach for the stars” seems like a lot to ask of a person. Some days, the most you can do is make it through the night.

If you’re interested in this poster, for a limited time you can purchase it from Light Grey Art Lab here!

Long Time No See!

Wow, it's been a few months since I've posted anything here! The reason for that is-- I'm in my last semester at MICA, and I've been spending almost all of my time working on creating products as opposed to individual narrative illustrations.

So here's the closest thing to a full illustration I've done recently-- a drawing for some friends' Lemongrab zine!! After Pierre Auguste Cot's "Spring", one of my favorite paintings. This was way too much fun to draw.

For those who are interested, the zine will be available to purchace at MOCCAfest, April 6-7!! It should be super awesome, it's full of talented people!

Ever since I created The Fat Femme's Guide To Loving Summer nearly two years ago, I've meant to do another fat fashion zine-- and I finally have!

DAMN GIRL THAT STYLE IS FAT! is a style guide for fat women specifically-- though I think it applies to all women (and femmes!). Something I've been learning personally in my journey into the world of fashion is that, despite popular belief, style isn't something some people are just magically born with. It's learned. Because many fat women are raised to believe that they can't be stylish, often it's just a skill we were never encouraged to develop.

A sample page, showing off a look for during the day.

But no more! I know better. You know better! Fat women are just as capable of being stylish as anyone else, and it's time we stepped up and took our rightful place in the world of well-dressed women. This zine functions as a guide to style, no matter whether you're a beginner or just looking for some new ideas!

Interested in reading DAMN GIRL THAT STYLE IS FAT!? It's available as a PDF for $5 here! Happy styling!

Finally got around to reading the first issue of BOOM!'s Fionna & Cake series by the amazing Natasha Allegri! It was fantastic, I'm super stoked for the rest of it to come out... not to mention Noelle had a comic in it, which was super rad.
So: Fionna fanart!! A lady who has her priorities straight: adventure, rescuing princes in distress, swords. A good list of interests!

Food Celebrity Portrait

Jamie Oliver Portrait
Jamie Oliver Spots

I haven't posted a lot from it here, but I've been in an Illustrating the Edible class this semester! Our latest assignment was a portrait of a food celebrity, along with two spot illustrations, one of which needed to be their name. I was really pleased with the way this turned out! It's Jamie Oliver, British food guy-- based on this article.

Though I have (for now) moved on from Dumpling Princess illustrations, I'm still working on narrative illustrations for my thesis! As you might be able to tell from this illustration, these are going to be about handsome dudes in space, because if I get to draw whatever I want, I'm going to cover all of my bases.
